Today's family dinner was really interesting. To begin with, we were going to have steak but we only had two of them, which is not enough to feed five people. This means that we supplemented with chicken. This reminded me too much of Judson steak night, only it tasted about 100 times better. Anyway, the food was a little odd but good.
Our topics of conversation covered everything from seeing your own blood, which spring-boarded into the time when my dad cut the tip of his finger off getting a little too fancy with the french chef knife, to a man waking up with a bat on his chest and a doctor friend wanting him to get rabies shots (Steve, this reminded me of you and Hank :) ), and then there was a spider on the ceiling. My brother HATES spiders. And then the topic went on to something else, and later my dad interjected a warning that they have been seeing a TON of black widow spiders in Michigan. This is important because we have never had black widows before. So following suit to what I always do when a medical topic comes up, I asked every possible question pertaining to black widow spider bites and venom and what to do if I or someone I know accidentally gets bits by one. In case you are wondering, you would tourniquet your leg, say, and then splint it and not really move. Hopefully that would stop the nerve wrecking toxins from getting into your body. At least until you could make it to the hospital. Anyway...I digress.
Somewhere in the middle of this crazy conversation (it never really stops. It just keeps on rolling to the next topic. For those of you who know me, family dinner might be where I get my odd topics of conversation starters and seemingly pointless interjections), I must have said something that offended Isaac. To which his reply was, "you are going to the doghouse" (we don't have a doghouse), and then he changed his mind and said, "No, you are going to the cat house...because you are a girl". This was a bit of an odd statement. The entire table went silent and my dad said that the last place he hoped I would be is in a cat house. I really couldn't stop laughing. All I could think of was my face on a billboard in Indiana. If you have never driven through Indiana to get to Chicago, then you will have no idea why this is funny. It was really entertaining.
I feel like I should give everyone a little introduction to all my immediate family members. I have talked about my dad, and Isaac, so that leaves my mom, and Caleb.
Today, before dinner, my mom tried on her new clothes for us. This is a common practice in our house that originated when I was younger and had to show my dad that my clothes were modest. It just kind of continued, partially because I like to try on new clothes and have someone who I know is going to think I am beautiful pay attention to me. It is like your own little fashion show. So it was my moms turn to do this. The reason that she was trying on new clothes is because she has lost 31 pounds in the last year and a half. That is AWESOME! Plus she did it the natural way. Diet and exercise. I am really proud of her!
On to Caleb...
Caleb is in a band. He plays the base guitar. He also plays about any weird instrument you can think of. He likes to write and edit and record and basically do anything as long as it includes music. His band is called The Cast and Crew. Here is a link so you can check them out!
The Cast and Crew
Caleb is the tall one on the right in the blue sweater. He is one of the trendiest and cool people I know. Like a modern day Ferris Bueller if you will. Seriously, he is. If I have a question about cool things I ask him. Because he is cool. I love him too.
And maybe just a positive note about Isaac. Just so no one remembers him as being afraid of spiders, he makes us laugh. Which is pretty awesome because Isaac means laughter. It is almost like God knew that he needed to be called that.
So there ya have it. A night in the life of Molly. Pretty crazy and overwhelming for some. Very homey and comfortable for others. Either way...you all should spend at least one family dinner in our midst. We like visitors. :) Here is a family picture so you can get an idea of what we look like.
