Yummy Food

A funny thing happens when you move out of your parent's house and start living on your own.  You have to make your own food.  This is a shocker...I know.  Another funny thing happens when your move out and have to start making your own meals, you realize just how expensive food is.  And when you realize this, you start to skimp on the foods that you have grown up on because you can only afford the necessities.  You can't do this forever though.  There are certain foods you just have to have around.  Here is my most recent list.

1.  Beef Jerky

2.  Sweet and Salty Chex Mix

3.  Chili for chili dogs

4.  Fresh fruit

5.  German Chocolate Cake

6.  M & M cookies

7.  Mashed Potatoes

8.  Donuts

9.  Cocoa Wheats

The funny thing about these foods is that when I am home at my parent's house, they aren't my favorites.  Excluding the mashed potatoes and donuts, I would never voluntarily eat these.  I think they represent a memory from home and so I eat them and remember.  I remember Arnie's baked goods with my Aunt Su, Dave Skiles, and my family (playing telephone with the croissants), and my daddy making chili dogs or Cocoa Wheats for all of us, and fresh fruit by the bushel in the summer, and Chex Mix on the beach, and beef jerky from Frank's meat market, and home made mashed potatoes with roast beef on Sunday afternoons, and making m &m cookies with my momma, and German Chocolate Cake for my dad's birthday, and candy corn and peanuts at Halloween, and jelly beans at Easter, and on and on.  You have to make room in your budget for the foods that allow you to reminisce.  You just have to.
